Gormley hears Haulbowline concerns

RTÉ News 1/7/08

Environment Minister John Gormley has given new information to residents from Cobh and Ringaskiddy on hazardous waste at Haulbowline following a meeting at Leinster House this evening.

The Minister released a 2005 report into the site, as well as giving residents access to daily water quality and dust reports. He has also given a commitment to allowing current data on waste at Haulbowline.

Following the meeting residents said they welcomed the Minister's openness but were disappointed they had received no assurances on the impact of the site on their health.

They were also concerned they had not been given a guarantee that financial concerns would not delay the clean up at the former Irish Steel plant.
